This Got Me into Roguelikes
“A Rewarding Roguelike Packed with Story”
About the game
What's the game?
You play as Zagreus, son of Hades, trying to escape the Underworld to reach Mount Olympus. Every time you die, you end up back home and try again. The tone is energetic and witty.
Gameplay
What you'll actually do
Its a fast paced roguelike. You fight through rooms of enemies, pick up boons (power ups) from the Olympian gods, and try to make it through all the areas without dying. Each run feels different because the boons you get change your build every time.
Between runs, you talk to characters back at the House of Hades. Relationships build over time, story progresses with each death, and you unlock new weapons and abilities that open up new playstyles.
My take
Why I keep thinking about it
At the time i played it, i wasnt really aware of what a roguelike/lite game is. I just saw how popular hades got and decided to give it a shot since i really like top down games. Here is when i discovered that these types of games are so damn addicting.
The combat is so smooth and fast that i never got tired of the loop. I was also surprised with the amount of dialog and great characters in this game.
Audience
Who's it for?
- People who want fast, satisfying combat with depth - If youve bounced off roguelikes before, this one might change your mind - Those who care about story and characters
Heads up
Before you buy
- ▸It is repetitive by nature since its a roguelike, some people get tired of that
- ▸Can be tough in the later areas
- ▸Lots of dialog in between runs for character building and story.
